A Strenuous CallAugust 18, 1905 The Correspondents’ rush to Oyster Bay to beg President Roosevelt to come help with the Russian-Japanese peace conference. Various papers they carry reads “World War, A Just and Lasting Peace, Crisis at Hand, Final Rupture Today” Japan and Russia argue in the background. The caption reads “The Correspondents - Hi, Mr. Roosevelt, you’ll have to come and fix up this peace conference. We’ve done all we can.” The peace conference between Japan and Russia had stalled, leading newspapers to call for Roosevelt’s intervention.
