SourceSourceNotes per slide! 1: Mr. Ito has said in interview that many of his ‘creepy young man’ type characters come to resemble him, often with no real intent of his own. He also seems to have based Souichi himself off of himself- obviously somewhat exaggerated. He probably didn’t mind control a teacher. 2. Why yes, yes it was important to use a whole slide to point out the teddybear curtains. I feel like the disconnect between what a sweet person he is, and the things he draws, is very important. 3. Gashunk gashunk drr dr drr4. This is a rather sweet comic Mr. Ito did, detailing his discovery of Mr. Kazuo’s work as a child, through his horror loving older sisters. A major highlight is the pain of growing up in an extremely rural area- he could only buy collected volumes completely out of order. Worse yet, his area didn’t receive the channel for the anime adaptations. It also details the time he almost did an adaptation of one of his beloved idol’s stories, and his thoughts on that. 5.Im actually not 100% this is really a photo of Mr. Ito. He’s a little cryptid like in his photographic presence on the internet…But anyways, this period of his life always fascinates me. Note that what he won in this contest was a ‘honorable mention’- from his idol Mr. Kazuo, no less! But since they didn’t select any actual main winner, he’s THE winner by default. What mysterious circumstance. 6: Here you can see the difference in his work after only a few chapters published, and I think this is one of the moments that really defined his horror visual language. But I also am showing his first manga to show that even with rough artwork, he’s already making a lot of dynamic panel and action choices. 7: Personally I really think Uzumaki, Midnight Paradox, and Mimi’s Ghost Stories are the strongest of his longform entries. But this is very objective taste. 8: “Junji Ito’s Cat Diaries”. It’s on amazon now! Using his horror art style while drawing an adorable series of cat auto-bio scenes… can there be any stronger proof of his sense of humor?9: I did the math. Assuming that a volume will be 4-6 chapters long, and theres 31 volumes listed here, he has published 120-186~ individual chapters of single or short form stories. 10: Some visual examination of a full Ito page. I was going to add a very detailed full page spread to demonstrate his OTHER big noteworthy style thing, but it seemed to make the length awkward. 11+12And finally my favorite quotes from some interviews with Mr. Ito, on both his sense of creation, and his advice. As always, souichi presents will… return! -- source link
