Day two: Willi Smith was an American Fashion Designer and during his life and career was considered to be The most successful black designer in the Fashion Industry, his line Willi Wear Limited grossed over 25 million in sales yearly during the height of his success. An alum of both Philadelphia’s College of Art and Parsons School of design, Willi would drop out in 1967 to pursue his own dreams of being a designer starting with a line with an apparel company known as Dots, then a failed line co- created with his soon to be supermodel sister Toukie (bottom right), and Finally establishing WilliWear Limited in 1976. Fun fact, he designed Mary Jane Watson’s wedding dress in the issue with her marrying Peter Parker. He would go on to design suits for the Groom and groomsmen for the wedding of Caroline Kennedy in 1986 and he also designed the clothing for Spike Lee’s School Daze. Sadly Willi would die due to complications from AIDS flared up from contracting Shigella on a trip to India on April 17th 1987.many close to him said he was unaware that he had contracted HIV OR AIDS at the time of his death… -- source link
