Like 25 years ago I was watching Saturday Night Live and this guy I’d never heard of named Morris Day was the musical guest. In the middle of his second song, Morris said into the mic, “I didn’t have time to have dinner,” at which point he sat down at a candlelit table and ordered a meal. Then he got up and sang some more, and then he sat back down and his assistant brought him a roasted chicken, which he proceeded to eat while his band played them into commercial. It was the coolest thing I’d ever seen a performer do at that point in my life, and I’ve spent years and years trying to find it online, to no avail. It got to the point that I thought I’d maybe dreamed of this great event that never actually happened. Two months ago I was playing music in my boss’s office and told her about the Morris Day dinner performance, explaining my enduring love for this weird thing I thought I saw once a quarter of a century ago. She smiled at me and nodded her head and I thought that was that. But Friday she called me down to her office and gave me a flash drive. On it was the Morris Day performance, which she’d procured via a friend at SNL. I almost cried while I watched it. It was still so great. -- source link
