80sanime:1991-1995 Anime PrimerGunsmith Cats (1995)It can be tough to make a living on the mean streets of Chicago, a city whose bustling surface conceals a crime-ridden underbelly. Luckily, expert markswoman Rally Vincent is able to capitalize on the danger both in her running of a gun shop and her career as a bounty hunter. She and her partner, the kittenish Minnie May Hopkins, are known as the Gunsmith Cats and—May’s over-enthusiasm for explosives aside—have a reputation for their professional handling of high-stakes cases. But after their involvement in an ATF investigation of an illegal firearms ring lands them on the hit list of a relentless Russian assassin, it will take all of their feline wiles to survive.Based on the Gunsmith Cats manga by Kenichi Sonoda (Bubblegum Crisis, Riding Bean), this three-episode OVA features a self-contained original story. The production is notable for its painstaking depictions of not only the real-life automobiles and weaponry used by the characters but Chicago itself, the staff having made several visits to the Windy City to ensure maximum accuracy. A jazz soundtrack by American performer Peter Erskine adds to the air of jaunty authenticity and perfectly complements the tightly choreographed action sequences, including what’s widely considered the best car chase in all of anime. On April 23rd 2018, AnimEigo successfully kickstarted a special Blu-ray edition of the OVA set for release in the second quarter of 2019. As of this writing, copies can still be ordered via their website. -- source link
