gleeksandtheirconfessions:people keep saying that just because Brittany didn’t have “school” smarts didn’t mean she was stupid. She didn’t have street smarts either people– she thought babies literally came from storks and she ate Cheerios off of the ground. Being an idiot savant with mathematics and cat diseases does not mean you’re smart.Brittany was as stupid as any given joke or plot needed her to be. She was one of the most inconsistently written characters on the show. Sometimes she was written as a toddler (usually in Ian episodes), sometimes she was written as dumb, and other times she was just eccentric. Like the example here of thinking babies come from storks being a contrived joke to kick off the theme of the week, since it was clear in S1 that Brittany knew where babies come from (apologizing to pregnant Quinn when she ponders what’s the worst that can happen by having sex). They needed her to be a child in that episode so she suddenly didn’t know how babies were made. Brittany has established plenty of times that she’s smart in different ways, both with emotional things and feelings, as well as what some people would call street smarts. It’s just that this is Glee we’re talking about, and her character and intelligence flip flopped when the writers wanted it to fit whatever asinine plot they came up with for that week. -- source link
