EtymologyFrom Greek, “γυνή” meaning “woman” + “queer”, indicating genderqueerness. Coined by Gent (Gender-Resource), 2021. as a companion term to Androqueer, which was coined by user mogaigalaxy, 2021. FlagThe flag is a recoloring of the Androqueer flag, which was created by the coiner of the term at the same times as the term. The Gynequeer flag consists of eleven horizontal stripes, with the first, second, fifth, seventh, tenth and eleventh being very thin and the third, fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth stripes being larger. From top to bottom, the stripes are dark brown, brown, dark pink, light pink, dark grey, white, dark grey, chartreuse, lime green, brown and dark brown. Flag by Gent (Gender-Resource), 2021. The colors have the following meanings:The light an dark brown stripes represent the support of and acknowledgement of POC being the backbone of the LGBT+ community. The pink stripes represents traditional femininity.The grey stripes represent the “grey areas” of gender, being not 100% one way or the other, not fitting into “women’s only” spaces comfortably despite having a connection to femininity.
