Sadly, their mortality rate is going up bc of ocean acidification which makes it harder for them to form their shells (see more about it here). Which means fewer oysters for eating and grosser waters in general. Again, this is already happening. But let’s keep acting like climate change isn’t a thing. -sigh- I went and helped with this oyster restoration project where we like zip tied shells to these meshes and they put them in the water for oysters to attach to -- source link
