muspeccoll:This leaf is from an English manuscript copied in the latter half of the 12th century. The leaf as we have it measures 145 x 100mm but, at some point inits history, it was relieved of its margins. The leaf contains text from chapters 17 and 18 of Decivitate dei by Saint Augustine. The scribe accidentally copied two usques in arow on the third and fourth lines from the bottom, a common error known as“dittography.” The foliate motif of the decorated initial is typical ofthe late-Ottonian style of decoration popular in England at that time.
