tanksb4skanks:I try so hard at work (chain pet store) to get these bettas into proper homes and customers just ignore EVERYTHING!Its been a while since this was posted. Ive learned one of the easiest ways to help the fish is to encourage people to WANT to do better. I start with establishing roles. The fish has one, to look healthy and provide us entertainment. Our job is to allow that to be possible. How so? Water. Is the water warm enough for the fish? Is it oxygenated? Clean? Spacious? Cover? Flow rate? Give people an understanding as to why they should have a heater, why they should give it as much space as possible, why we do water changes. If you can, encourage them to “be the fish” as silly as that sounds . Am I warm enough, can I breath easy, can I hide, am I stressed by my tank mates, ect.“ Having them see the fish as a living being rather than a decoration is hard, but worth a try. Never put people down for not doing everything correct. Encourage them, be a source of information, be available to help. Kindness is the best way to make fish owners WANT to learn. Be kind and forgiving. Always continue your own education to be as helpful as you can. We cant save them all, but we can try our best to spread education, and being kind will go much further than making people feel bad. -- source link
