Julia Volkova’s interview for Icon Music MagazineYour new single, People, Save the World, was recently released. What is it about? This song is my manifesto and I do not want to oppose just anything. I am for strong families, love, caring for relationships, respect for nature, for each other, and for yourself. The world is how we see it and we create it ourselves. Life passes fast and we destroy everything with our own hands. This is far from a commercial single for me, this is a cry from my soul.Do you think musicians are able to save the world and change the formation of human consciousness?Of course! But, it won’t happen right away, it takes time. “Water sharpens the rock”, as they say. Music is one layer in pop culture which is able to change someone’s consciousness, convince them, or, at least get them thinking about one thing or another. There is an important message here which the artist and author wants to deliver. How have you changed throughout the years? How has having children affected you?I have become more level headed, more responsible and less impulsive. But, the fire I had in me when I was 15 is still there and continues to burn. Of course, sometimes I want it all and right away, but I understand that it is not always like this and something has to be sacrificed.Where do you prefer to work, in the USA or in Russia? Where is it easier to live and where is it easer to work?I tour in many countries and what is important for me is the energy and sincerity of the public. Believe it or not, it does not matter whether you are in Dubai at one of the largest, most prestigious concert venues or in some small town. The main thing is the people. I was very comfortable in America, where I recorded music and toured. But, Russia is where I was born. My children are here, as are my parents, many memories and favorite places. I don’t think they are comparable. It’s like comparing pears and apples, I love both of them. How has your illness changed you?Everything fell into place. I was able to see who was a true friend and who was a parasite. I have become more selective and view the world differently. I started spending more time with my family and the people who love and support me. I did some soul-searching.Are you getting your children ready for a career in music? What do they think of your work?I give them freedom of choice. Samir is more serious and is into science and debate. Vika is more creative. She has taken dancing, acting, singing, but is still searching for herself. They are fine with my work - they know my songs and have seen my videos on TV. Sometimes I even perform Nas Ne Dagoniat with Vika.Have you sang your best song and have given your best performance, or is everything still ahead?Everything is still ahead. Maybe it’s a slow pace, but I am constantly moving in that direction. The entire country is waiting for your reunion with Lena, even if it’s not for t.A.T.u. Is there a chance that we will see you together again in a project?Everything is possible. It happened in a way that our communication has been reduced to a minimum, but we are not enemies and have spent a large part of our lives together. There have been different situations - we have supported one another and argued as well…This is life.Tell us something interesting about what we can expect from our new album. We know that this will be a large-scale work. There will be a variety of tracks: everyone will hear a song that’s for them, for their mood and state. There will be serious songs as well as ones about love. Basically, everything that is vital. In a music sense, it is in a eurodance format.Do you have other plans besides music? A movie or maybe something else?I have been quiet for a long time, so right now my only priority is music. -- source link
