wewearshortjorts:eubalaena:saq-rabbit:=============SPACE MOMS=============YES, they all agedNO, they didn’t stop being beautifulYES, They will forever be our Space Moms. I like these ladies but I hate the trend of calling them space momsI hate the entire calling actresses “mom” (and actors “dad” but I see that less) thing tbh.I meant no disrespect when I made this post, but let me explain why they are “Moms.”It’s not because they are older, it’s because they guided an entire generation to wonderful outcomes. Kate Mulgrew, being the first and only female captain of the enterprise, gave a generation of girls someone to look up to and to aspire to. Sigourney Weaver broke the mold on Female action stars in an era of male dominated, testosterone filled action movies. Nichelle Nichols was not only a participant in the first interracial kiss on tv, she was a black actress in a position on a ship that was equal to her shipmates. Supported by Martian Luther King Jr. himself, you better believe the generation of young black girls that benefited from that.Dana Skully showed that it was ok to be nerdy, to be a scientist, to be important and heard and firm in what she believed (What most men label as being “A B**ch.) Gillian Anderson brought confidence to a female role and refused to have her be a side-kick in the X Files. And lastly Carrie Fisher. Not much needs to be said because she says it all herself. And is in fact the reason I made this post because many people believe that while actors age like fine wine, actresses have an expiration date. Saying things publicly about how she isn’t “metal bikini Leia” anymore is rude an a fine example of what is wrong with the people in charge of Hollywood.I call them “Moms” not out of disrespect or because they are “older”, but because when my generation was younger, we had them to look up to. And of course there are MANY other women out there that fall into this category. I was just a scifi kid and these were the women that meant something to me. Because I was a child looking at strong women that reminded me of my mom. They are my Space Moms. -- source link
