Reinforcing the male gaze – or, is it empowerment?If it makes you feel conflicted, maybe it helps to remember that it’s her choice and right to appear in Playboy. As the woman she is. I see it more as empowerment, in this instance. Since it’s being positively covered, maybe it will help empower other trans individuals on their own journey. Hopefully, by letting society-at-large see her as the woman she is, and as a physically beautiful woman at that, Ines will help others see us as human. Hopefully. Because we’re not to be outcast, feared, mocked. We are to be recognized, respected, protected.At the very least, we’re to be ignored, so that we can go on about our lives with the same liberty and freedom many others enjoy.
