cheeseanonioncrisps:hollow-head:how embarrassingOkay but consider, Crowley only remembers the old Heaven, before the Fall, when angels were a lot closer to God and quite possibly did see her as a parental figure. And then She chucked him out, and though he’s had a bit of time for that to scab over, and to decide that he’s Better Off Without Her anyway, but deep down he can’t help still thinking of Her as Mum.Aziraphale, on the other hand? Aziraphale has spent probably considerably more than the past 6000 years living in the new, less welcoming, Heaven. Unlike Crowley, who pretty much went from thinking that God’s love was unconditional to finding that he’d inadvertently violated one of the conditions, Aziraphale has spent the bulk of his existence knowing that God loves him, but also that she could stop loving him the moment he puts a toe out of line, and nobody really knows exactly where the line is. Hell, if you go with my theory that Aziraphale might not have been created until after the Fall (since his main jobs appear to be guarding and protecting things, and it was only after the Fall that Heaven had anything to guard against and protect things from), then his he would have no experience of a relationship with God that isn’t mixed with a little fear.Aziraphale isn’t nearly as open with God as Crowley is. When Crowley wants to address God he just shouts upwards, sure that She’ll hear him if She wants to, when Aziraphale wants to talk to God, he petitions God’s secretary, and asks to speak to the Highest Authority. Crowley openly questions God’s motives, Aziraphale nervously states that it’s “best not to speculate, really"— which is sensible, since we know that asking questions is one of the things that can make angels Fall.Crowley still thinks of God as his Mother, even though he knows he’s not supposed to. Aziraphale knows he’s supposed to feel that way about Her, but hasn’t actually thought of Her as anything other than ‘distant authority figure with a terrifying attitude to people who break the Rules’ in a very long time. -- source link
