mistymacallister:If you’re fascinated with Atlantis, read on. Here’s what Plato said about the people who lived on Atlantis. (Plato is the first ever guy to write anything about Atlantis and therefore responsible for our fascination with Atlantis, so remember him.) The Atlanteans were the descendants of Poseidon. Poseidon mated with a mortal woman and begot the Atlanteans. So the Atlanteans were half god. And because they were half god, they had virtues, like these: - they were obedient to the laws - they were affectionate toward Poseidon and grateful that they came from his seed - they were awesome individuals; whatever they did, they did it with gentleness and wisdom, and when they interacted with each other, they also did it with gentleness and wisdom - they were not intoxicated by luxury - and wealth didn’t deprive them of self-control, in other words, they thought that wealth is best enjoyed when you’re virtuous and kind to everyone But then, the portion in their blood that came from Poseidon and made them half godly and basically nice people started to decrease. In other words, the Atlanteans started mating with regular mortals which diluted their gene pool. What happened was that they became more human and started behaving like assholes. Some of them realized that they’re becoming too human and they wanted to stop it, but the majority of the Atlanteans loved being avaricious and all the other things that regular mortals were. And that’s where Zeus intervened and….no one knows what happens next because whatever Plato wrote about what Zeus did to the Atlanteans is lost. I don’t know what Poseidon was thinking mating with a mortal woman. For a god, he didn’t have much foresight. And here’s me. No relation to Poseidon. In @katie_and_laura panties. No bra.
