welovethebeekeeper:constancecream:violethuntress:constancecream:violethuntress:constancecream:Could a romantic match also be on the cards for the detective?Cumberbatch gives a short, hollow laugh followed by a response straight out of 221B Baker Street.“Straight to the heart… Will there be romance, romance, romance… Romance is a foreign concept to him. There might be something in the arena of proximity…”Read full article hereUgh this article is filled with errors but…“Arena or proximity” to romance—do you think he could be referring to our speculated milverton plot line? Where Holmes has to romance (let it be the butler) someone for information?!I’m well aware that these articles are full of errors and superficialities, but it’s exactly what forms the public opinion of the show. There will be so much misinformation out until the season has finally aired, but I’m still going to post this shit, just because…And to be honest, I doubt this line was about the butler. I don’t think they show ANY gay side of Sherlock. Not even, if he was shaming it. It doesn’t fit their concept. I’d rather think he might have been talking about his relationship to John or even Mycroft, as we learned that we are going to see more of their past. Just my interpretation of ‘arena of proximity’. Might be completely wrong.Yes! Thank you for posting! (I hope you didn’t think I was complaining about that…). I can’t believe it says “one year” after the last episode ARGH DO YOUR RESEARCH.I would love it if “area or proximity” referred to John but ugh you’re probably right that I need to lower my expectations for this butler storyline but I WANT IT SO MUCH!! ;)Why? They probably would twist it into another round of extended queerbashing, and no matter what fan fics could make of the scenes, I would probably feel bad about it. Remember, in the books Holmes only pretended to be in love with the housemaid to get the much desired information she could provide. He promised her marriage never thinking for one moment about the girl’s feelings. He shrugged his shoulders. ‘You can’t help it my dear Watson. You must play your cards as best as you can when such a stake is on the table.’And perhaps ‘arena of proximity’ just means that Sherlock now cares for two people, Mr and Mrs Watson? Ugh…I think there may be a ‘fake’ romance, let’s face it we are covering CHAS here and I think they will include the manipulation of the ‘maid’ or someone close to Magnussen. I think it will be Janine. It will be fake, for the case, not an unusual concept in many thriller/spy films or tv programs, but I think Janine will be doing the same thing with Sherlock, so making the ‘sting’ more palatable. This is Moffat here. Once it is over we will be no more the wiser over Sherlock’s sexual orientation than we ever where.I don’t think the quote is a reference to John, nor to John and Mary. I suspect that Sherlock will tolerate Mary, even respect her, but there will be no stretching to caring or fondness. Also consider the source, who knows what BC was referring to!Yes… I think this is what I was trying to get at–fake romance being ‘in the proximity’ of romance. You’re probably right it’s Janine (“sherlock must thank the bridesmaids…” ?!?), but I will hold out hope for the butler (as long as its not played in a queerbhobic way) until proven otherwise :( -- source link
