We arrived in Athens at 5 AM Friday (9 PM Thursday in Texas. We’re now 8 hours ahead of you, dear readers.), bleary eyed after not sleeping on the turbulent, hot plane. We’re now joined by Mireille, a close family friend who is also from Lebanon. I love that she’s with us, not only because she’s a wonderful person but because she’s not as introverted as the three of us, unafraid to make decisions and chat with our guide here in Athens, John, the taxi driving nephew of a Greek family friend at our church.We race through the streets in John’s taxi as the sun slowly rises over the mountains. As if reading our tired expressions, he offers us two choices to get coffee: “The sea or the center?” I already know Mom’s choice.
