tifaria:I am drained.Today the state of Texas decided that schools will reopen in the fall, despite every scientist and expert saying that’s a bad idea. They are not mandating that students wear masks. This leaves teachers with very little choice. We either go back to our jobs, or we lose our jobs.My school is enormous. We have over 3,000 students in a cramped building with ventilation from the 1950s. Passing periods are a nightmare. My room has 40 kids in it and they have to sit 2 feet apart because the room isn’t big enough. Flu and strep season are a nightmare, the kids fall like flies. And now the state of Texas is telling me that I have to go back to school, with no access to cleaning products unless I buy them myself, and do my job. Because the economy needs to open. Because teachers are glorified babysitters. Fuck us, right? Fuck all the teachers who are in high-risk groups. Fuck our families and our personal wellbeing. You don’t like it? Quit. Get another job. That’s what they’re telling us. I love my job. It’s the best thing I’ve done with my life and I wish I’d done it sooner. But I can’t do it under these conditions. I will get sick. I don’t know if I’ll survive. If I do, I’ll have lasting damage that will affect me for a long time. But the economy needs to restart. -- source link
