Chilean artist and poet Cecilia Vicuña has devoted the last five decades to studying and reimagining the Andean tradition of the quipu: a system of knotted cords used for record-keeping. Building from the quipu’s form and complex histories, Vicuña has transformed this ancient mode of communication in a site-specific installation linking movement, sound, material, and history.
