vandaliatraveler:I celebrated National Trails Day by doing the thing I love most: taking a hike in the mountains. My destinations today were Spruce Knob, the highest peak in the Mountain State, and Seneca Creek Backcountry. It was a glorious day for the most part, although thunderstorms rolled in later in the day. No matter. I found my favorite spring wildflower - which happens to be a dwarf dogwood - at peak bloom. Huckleberry Trail (on the summit of Spruce Mountain) was overrun with bunchberry, as beautiful as I’ve ever seen it. Among the other wildflowers on display: marsh marigold; wild columbine; blue-eyed grass; early (roseshell) azalea; and yellow clintonia. -- source link
