Mr. Kim (1997), a delightful sculpture by Nam Jun Paik, was recently on view in the Museum’s new Korean gallery. The work is composed of vintage radio cases in the form of a small robot. Two monitors housed within the head and body radio cases simultaneously play identical videos on a loop. Thorough documentation of the work has not been possible until recently as Mr. Kim was immediately put on view after coming into the Museum. Now, while the object is in the conservation lab, we have had the opportunity to closely examine the work and document its construction and condition. Working closely with Bob Nardi, Manager of Time-Based Media & AV Technology we have identified and mapped all of the media and electronic components of the work. We are also working on an electronic media preservation strategy to ensure the work can continue to be enjoyed in the future.Posted by Tina March -- source link
