hyperb0rean:Feminine Fashion and Beauty in the Third ReichJust as the black and white visuals in photos and film footage of the Third Reich has inadvertently painted this era in bleak colors and thus contributed to a warped perception, in our day and age, of the life under the rule of National Socialism as something joyless, dreary, and oppressive, many are also misled by the appearance of uniformed columns of men, women, boys and girls into believing that the Third Reich enforced some kind of “public dress code” upon its citizens and that this era was not the place for beauty nor fashion. Truth be told, “Natural Beauty” was held in high esteem during the Third Reich. The rampant cosmetic surgery that nowadays turns women (and men) into grotesque abominations hailed as “celebrities” on TV shows and elsewhere, would have been anathema to the beauty ideal of the Third Reich - and rightly so. However, beauty can always be enhanced and refined. It’s a very feminine trait to strive for beauty in all things, and fashion is a means to this end. This trait was not suppressed among the girls and women living in the Third Reich, quite the contrary: The girls from age 17 to age 21, in particular, who were organized in the Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM), were encouraged to join the study group “Persönliche Lebensgestaltung und Werkarbeit” (Personal way of life and Homework), for instance. There, they were taught to develop their own, personal taste for fashion and how to do the sewing, on their own. Thus enabling them to dress in whatever way suits them best.As you can see on the photos from the illustrated book “Faith and Beauty”, members of this study group worked together and learned how fashion must not look like (namely, inappropriate and tasteless), how to sew their own dresses, and they also organized fashion shows for the sake of learning what suits each one of them best and what looks good. The magazine “Frauenwarte”, published by the NSDAP for a female readership, kept publishing fashion and beauty advices and advertisements until well into wartime. Obviously, the women of the Third Reich were reminded, and encouraged, not to neglect their beauty care, regardless of the death raining down from Allied bomber columns in the sky above, or the anguish their husbands and brothers suffered at the frontlines all around the Reich. The beauty of the Germanic and Nordic Woman was revered and hailed far and wide, already mentioned by the Greek and Roman scholars and chroniclers who happened to come in contact with the Germanic tribes of old. Her beauty revealed a glimpse of divine splendour, and to have such beautiful women among their own tribe would secure the blessing of the Gods for every tribesman, as well. That’s exactly the same sentiment we can find in the Third Reich too!Contrary to popular belief, the German Woman was not asked to renounce makeup and to change her fashionable, individual dress for a uniform which would make her indistinguishable from every other female in the Third Reich. Not at all! Instead, she was being educated in acquiring her personal taste for the beauty and fashion that’d suit her best. In that sense, the woman of the Third Reich was much more of an individualist than so many women in our day and age, who desperately attempt to conform to some hyped and phony “beauty ideal” that is nothing but a mockery of genuine beauty. Female beauty is divine and sacred; and where it can be found, it ought to be groomed carefully with delicate and individual taste by every woman. Such was the belief of our elders, such was the official doctrine in the Third Reich. Don’t be fooled by anyone who says that beauty and fashion were shunned by the disciples of National Socialism. No, they were - and remain to be - the champions of the eternal beauty and exquisite grace which have flourished and blossomed among the women of the Nordic race ever since the Gods created them in their own image. As they did, so shall we do: Rise and shine, be beautiful and inspire your men with your grace! — Hyperb0rean || ARTAMANEN -- source link
