justlgbtthings: crystallos-sol:justlgbtthings: justlgbtthings:inspiration porn is ableist. knowing your limits and not purposely putting yourself in harmful situations is not “giving up.” disabled people living their lives is not “giving up” and they are allowed to be disabled in peace. we don’t need to be an inspiration to abled people. we are not here to serve and be witnessed by abled people. pictures and mentality like this enforce the idea that our lives are to be a public spectacle and that without the abled perspective, are otherwise meaningless and unfulfilled unto ourselves. this glorifies self-harm and -endangerment, and is incredibly harmful and toxic to disabled people. protect disabled youth and stop spreading messages that we’re not good enough knowing our limitations and not spreading ourselves thin. no y’all it’s not about whether or not the kid likes karate. it’s the fact that ableds make memes about it like it’s a spectacle and disabled people doing literally anything is treated like a source of inspiration for ableds, especially if it can hurt the disabled person doing it because that suffering we endure while pretending to be abled is considered what makes us “strong”. there are other forms of strength and i’m sick of pretending like it’s healthy and normal for disabled people to put themselves at risk so they can prove their worth that they already inherently have. if he likes karate, good for him. but don’t act like him not being able to physically do it is a personal failure or “giving up.” it’s ableism. stop justifying it. -- source link
