barefootinmate: Abby walked into the police station to turn herself in under a traffic charge amnesty program the local police department had advertised. She’d skipped a court appearance following an accident she’d had years ago, and was eager to put it behind her. She was more than a bit confused, then, when the officer took no more than a glance at her file on the computer before searching her and locking her in transport restraints. He told Abby to sit tight while he arranged for an officer to drive her to county jail. “Um, sir?,” Abby asked. “I thought this was an amnesty program - was that not correct? Can you tell me what will happen at the county jail, and how long it will take? I have to work in a few hours. Also, you took my shoes off when you searched me - I’m going to need those back before we go. “Yeah, so, sorry about the confusion,” the officer replied. “Your ticket was actually for leaving the scene of an accident where there was property damage, which is a felony. Sorry if you got invited to the amnesty day when you didn’t qualify. The officer will take you by the courthouse for arraignment and bail. If you can’t make it, he’ll take you on to jail to await trial. As for the shoes, thanks for reminding me - not only can you not have them back, I’m going to need your socks, too. Bare feet for all prisoners - keeps you from hiding stuff in your socks or using heavy shoes to kick and hurt somebody.” A nervous Abby nodded obediently and struggled to bend over in her chains to strip off her socks, already looking at the dirty and cold looking concrete floor of the room. -- source link
