whimslcott:unpopularopinionsongender:there’s something pretty sickening going on when people use trans murder statistics to convince trans women that they’re almost certainly going to die and to gain political leverage and not only don’t do anything to fight the sex industry but actively defend it and silence everyone (including trafficking survivors) who says a word against it. this whole anti-radical politics is so disingenuous and does absolutely nothing to help people who face anti-trans violence. actually, it does so, so much harm and i’m truly disgusted by it actually though, grossly inflated death statistics predate rq politics. when i was a kid the common figure was that the average life expectancy of a trans woman was like, 25, and they all kill themselves of dysphoria. which was easy enough to debunk if you think about it for even like 20 secondsalso, as an observation, a group of impressionable young people are significantly easier to control if you manage to successfully convince them that they need protection from some extreme form of danger and that everyone except you wants to kill themI still see people using the “1 and 12″ statistic that’s been debunked for like… years (and there was even an article being passed around for a whole, written by a trans women i believe, asking people to not push the lie because it might make their activism look bad). People in sex work are DEFINITELY at higher risks of violence/murder/rape, trans or not, but it’s difficult to discuss this due to the whole SWERF thing. -- source link
