aenglaland:The Disgrace of Wolsey. His downfall was mostly due to his failure to secure a Papal annulment for Henry the 8th’s marriage with his wife, Catherine of Aragon, of whom he was now bored of and was not able to conceive a male heir. However, much of Parliament and Henry’s other ministers loathed him and were greatly jealous of his staggering success and grandure. Wolsey became such a wealthy and powerful minister during his reign as Lord Chancellor that he was often called “Alter Rex” meaning “Alternate King”. They accused him of treason and other false charges. Wolsey died on the way to London to face trial. After his death Henry realised his error and blamed parliament for the downfall of his best minister and great friend. -- source link
