Gyalolechia subbracteataLooking for lichens is kinda like looking for Easter eggs. Since I am an adult and no one sets up Easter egg hunts for me anymore, I wandered took a walk and collected some lichens! Scanning the ground and the bushes and rocks and trees, looking for that distinctive pop of color, collecting them and putting them in my little collection basket. But nothing I found was as gorgeous as G. subbtracteata! This yellow crustose lichen with bright orange apothecia is native to the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean ecosystems of North America. It grows on rock, soil, and moss, sometimes completely growing over other lichens in the process. Ope, sorry, let me just grow right over ya here. images: source | source info: source -- source link
