The Tranter Double Action Revolver,Invented by Englishman William Trantor in 1857, it used a double action design similar to that of the Beaumont Adams revolver. However Tranter decided to modify the design, removing the spur on the hammer and adding a second trigger. If a user wanted to operate the pistol in Single Action mode, the second trigger would be used to revolver the cyclinder and cock the gun, instead of the hammer.During the American Civil War many of these pistol would be smuggled to the South and become popular with the Confederate Army. The famous cavalry commander Gen. J.E.B. Stuart often carried a trantor revolver. Other famous users include Richard Gatling and Alan Pinkerton (founder of the Pinkerton Detective Agency). -- source link
