“You Plundered My Garden and Stole My Hands”So a little back story- earlier this week I had a bad day dealing with discovering someone had plagiarizing my artwork. Most of my illustrations take me many hours to design and execute, and it hurts to see someone take something that took me days and weeks to create and spend 10 minutes tracing parts of it and then claiming it as their own work.In this particular case, about 50% of the piece was copied, but the part that hurt the most was the person had traced the hands, which happened to be my own hands in the piece.I encourage people to make studies of my art, that’s fine. In fact, it’s great! Sometimes it really helps to build your own skills to delve into another style, I do it often. And use resources, photos, etc, most of my pieces are based off of studying my own anatomy, hanging cloth on the wall to see how it falls, photos of animals online.But please don’t trace people’s art and make no mention of that piece, and say it is your own.
