Sole Mates: Patrick & Hanalei GudauskasLove is in the air… especially for our favorite newlyweds, Vans Surf’s Patrick Gudauskas and his wife Hanalei! They’re spilling the details on how they met 9 years ago (YES, NINE!), and how they somehow keep ending up together in Australia for Valentine’s Day. Hey Mr. & Mrs. Gudauskas, can we come with you next year?!How did you guys meet & how long have you been together?Patrick: Hanalei and I met nine years ago in August on the beaches of Hossegor, France. Hanalei was surfing and travelling in Europe with Rip Curl at the time when I saw her on the beach. She was beautiful and I just couldn’t not go up to her and say hello. She was amazing from day one and was the reason I started speaking French haha. Hanalei: We met the summer of 2008 in Hossegor, France. It was during a surf contest, he had won the tag team event and we had said hello. Then, I was just drinking a juice by myself and he literally just sad down with me. We chatted and I was smitten. There was a huge party that night, so he gave me his contest jersey to make me promise I would come. And I did! The rest is history. What did you do on your first date? Your most recent date?Patrick: There was a smoothie stand or something right there on the beach, so I invited Hanalei for a smoothie and we hung out and chatted and I got to know her a bit. I loved her accent and vibe.Hanalei: We had a juice on the beach (although it wasn’t really technical our first date as he didn’t really ask me out! Hehe). After that we both traveled all over the world, and we would meet up anywhere we could. We just flew to Australia, so our last date was a home cooked meal in our home in SC, snuggling on the couch by the fire and watching the stars from our sunroom.Do you have any Valentine’s traditions?Patrick: The last few years we have ended up being in Australia from our travel schedule, so we try to have a good time in the land down unda. We just arrived today on Valentine’s Day, so we celebrated with a beer together on the flight down. Hanalei: We have always ended up being in Australia on Valentine’s Day, so a beach day is always in order. We don’t have a specific tradition, as long as we are having a good time! What’s one thing you guys have in common? What’s one way in which you’re totally different?Patrick: We both love the beach and love surfing. Hanalei was born and raised in Tahiti, so she is an island girl. It also happens to be my favorite place in the world, so I guess we both love Tahiti. We are different in our ability to be on time. I’m always late and everyone gets bummed and she’s really good about being on it. I must upset her quite a bit hahahaha. Hanalei: We have so much in common. We both love traveling, being driven, laughing till our belly hurts, being in the ocean, having a good time, dancing and pretty much everything in between that makes our life go round, but he loves coffee and I am a tea kinda girl…If you guys could write your own candy heart, what would it say?Patrick: haha probably je t'aime. Or les wasson which means bird— it’s my favorite French word that Hanalei has taught me. It’s fun to say. Not sure if I spelled it right.Hanalei: JE T'AIME would be great or BUG or NUGGET because that’s what we call each other… (Ps it’s spelled OISEAU! Haha!)Patrick’s top 2 picks for Valentine’s Day:Classic Era Boardshorts to surf in.All black Black Ball Hi’s to get psyched in.Hanalei’s top 2 picks for Valentine’s Day:Silver Aura Snowboard Boots to rage on mountains with.Checkerboard Slip-Ons to vibe out in. -- source link
