yougottaletitout:All my bags are packedI’m ready to goI’m standin’ here outside your doorI hate to wake you up to say goodbyeBut the dawn is breakin’It’s early mornThe taxi’s waitin’He’s blowin’ his hornAlready I’m so lonesomeI could dieSo kiss me and smile for meTell me that you’ll wait for meHold me like you’ll never let me goCause I’m leavin’ on a jet planeDon’t know when I’ll be back againOh babe, I hate to goBut I’m leavin’ on a jet planeDon’t know when I’ll be back againOh babe I hate to go This is a goodbye song, which, in theory, makes sense in a place where he says goodbye to Emma, a job he loves, and the Gleeclub. Only this song is targeted to a lover, (fiancée even, based on the rest of the lyrics), and Terri is the only person he isn’t leaving.Which goes perfectly well with how, when Terri wants to celebrate being pregnant, the first thing that Will thinks it could be about is the Gleeclub. Terri… Always comes second. It also illustrates how dependent Will is on the things that happen at WMHS. Glee will continue on even when he’s not there: after all, their best performance in this episode is the one they sing without his supervision. But Will is ‘already so lonesome he could die’. So, Will doesn’t succeed at leaving. And he will always stay. He will not continue with the Acafellas in Acafellas, he will not play Jean Valjean in Dream On, he will not hand over ND to Holly on The Substitute despite being fired, and he will not sing on Broadway with April in New York. And that is his audition-story. (He does get a scene that’s shot very similar to how Rachel’s audition was shot after all.)Like Terri said: ” You know, I understand your interest in these kids, Will, I really do… yeahIt’s your way of recapturing your glory days. But I’m not the high school cheerleader anymore and you are not the golden boy. High school’s over, for both of us.“ Will doesn’t want to leave. Will’s character was so clearly defined in the Pilot, and has been kept so consistent, and is so simple. Like, he drives me crazy, this is not a secret, and he is not our hero and is often our obstacle (and his function is really interesting because of that, and how he can never be permitted to realize any of this,) but he’s just fundamentally so sad.No one is a Bad Guy on Glee. No one. -- source link
