The pastime of fox-tossing reached its peak in the 17th and 18th centuries, often as an activity for wealthy people, who would often pair up to use slings to throw foxes into the air. The winner would be the person or pair of people who had thrown the fox the highest. The foxes, needless to say, would usually be grievously injured or killed. -- source link
