armeleia:draconicimpulse:infernumequinomin:nicolas-christ:Pantene Phillippines #whipit Labels against womenThis is so relevant it’s not even funny.Actually I have yet to see a situation where anybody other than the most presumptuous assholes would assume any of this about anybody be they male or female 8BMaybe you don’t work in the professional world yet or maybe you’re just extremely lucky? :) Studies have shown that women exhibiting the same traits as men in the workplace are perceived wildly differently. Women are considered aggressive in the same scenarios and with the same behaviors where a man is considered “assertive.” A professional woman who works long hours is often thought to be neglecting her family, choosing work over family, and her heart and her very womanhood is brought into question; a man working the same hours is thought of as ambitious, hard-working, and real go-getter. A guy who looks nice isn’t questioned on his motives; a woman is always assumed to be dressing up for a man.(I apologize that I can’t find the specific study that I’m thinking of, but a basic Google search will bring up a dozen articles easily, about how women can be taken seriously in the field, even from fucking Forbes magazine!)I also had a man at my company tell me that I need to “tone it down” with reference to my enthusiasm for the hands-on part of renovating my house. Why? Because I would never find a man. Though maybe a construction worker, fireman, or police officer wouldn’t feel threatened by my masculinity. Two things here. First, what the fuck? A woman can’t rip down a ceiling? And second, what the fuck place does this man have in telling me how I need to behave to find a partner?I’m very qualified for my job. Yet when I fix or build things, it’s treated like “Oh, wow! You fixed it?” as though I just happened to pull some magical solution out of my ass by chance, rather than because I actually am qualified to do what I’m doing. I know more, do half of the IT manager’s job in addition to my own, have worked there longer, but get paid less than most of the men in the office and am not considered for any sort of supervisory position. There are 4 men in the company and 3 of them are management. Interesting, isn’t it?Interesting, but sadly not unique. Most women in the working world have stories about how they were ignored, lectured on the intersections of their personal and professional lives, told how to dress or act, made to second fiddle to male employees, or judged with the ridiculous double-standard exhibited in the gifs above. -- source link
