During the 6th century BCE Lavinium (50 mkm south of Rome) was an important religious centre of italic peoples. Among cult sites one can mention temple of Athene Ilias and sanctuaries of Aphrodite and Ceres. A god called Sol Indiges was also worshipped in a nearby grove. Almost hundred statues depicting Athene or her votaries have been found from the temple area; some of these can be seen in the pic. ps.
