Workers wiring floats together to make “mine nets” (Britain, WW1).These large mesh wire nets had mines attached to them, and weresuspended from anchored buoys and strung between ships. The idea wasthat when a submarine snagged the net, the mines would be drawnalongside the submarine. However, the nets were difficult tomaintain, and once the U-boats knew where they were, they were oftenable to avoid them by going underneath.
