darkstarofchaos:irregularjohnnywiggins:iconuk01:crinosg:jeannettegray:darkstarofchaos:aeonmagnus:Megatron’s expression, lol. >:-(Seriously why does Megatron even keep Starscream around? He’s got better minions could be his number two.The usual explanations are thatA) Starscream is a schemer and a plotter, it’s better to KNOW where he is. (Think; Theresa May making Boris Johnson, who she despises, a senior cabinet member as Foreign Secretary, precisely so she’d know what he was doing (making an arse of himself usually), and also ensuring that if he resigned it would be because he wanted to (thus making him seem weak) rather than because she made him (which would have made him a martyr).B) He’s actually a good soldier and an ace flier, once properly motivated, and self interest is a motivatorC) Some of the traits he dispalys might make him a good leader for the Decepticons (tactical cunning, a willingness to lie as required etc)… eventually, and Megatron keeps him around to see if he displays the others.Personally I prefer the Prime explanation of ‘I’m endlessly amused by his constant attempts to try and kill me, and I wanna see how he’ll fail this time’Although IIRC Starscream actually succeeds in Prime, so eh.There’s also the small, oft-overlooked detail that more often than not, Starscream is RIGHT. Yeah, he has his moments of pettiness, but most of his concerns and criticisms are valid. If he points out a flaw in one of Megatron’s plans, that flaw is almost guaranteed to cause trouble later on. Does Megatron listen to him? Of course not. Megatron is a proud mech, and he spends a LOT of time belittling Starscream for the same concerns that come back to bite them. He can’t admit to being wrong about the plan, because then he’d also have to admit, however subtly, that he was wrong about Starscream. And he can’t do that, so instead he continues to mock him while ignoring the warnings.Things don’t always go this way. There are episodes where Megatron has anticipated Starscream’s arguments and addresses them when they arise. There are episodes where Starscream has nothing to contribute and they still lose. There’s even at least one episode where Soundwave shares Starscream’s misgivings and Megatron ignores both of them. Starscream is the freaking Second in Command, it’s not his job to be a yes man. It’s his job to point out the glaring holes in Megatron’s plans and say, you know, we might want to address that. Ideally he would do this before the plan is put into motion, but it’s pretty obvious that Megatron rarely tells him anything beforehand.Am I saying it’s exclusively Megatron’s fault things go wrong? No. But it’s not exclusively Starscream’s fault either. As for TFP, Starscream is the mastermind behind all the Decepticons’ greatest victories, and I’ll not be convinced otherwise.TFP Screamer was the only Con to scrap am Autobot on screen in the whole show, so there’s that. It was the one played by Dwayne Johnson, too. -- source link
