germanjenn:odinsblog:badcode:The GOP tax bill—the amount of money that was given to corporations and the rich would have paid for Medicare for all and healthcare for every man, woman, and child in this country for the next five years. So it’s there. And additionally, we added several hundred billion dollars additionally to our military spending, when the military didn’t even ask for it. They didn’t even want that additional spending, but we lopped it on there—and that could have financed public college tuition for years as well. So we actually have the money for these things.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez | Interview with NowThisWe actually have the money for these things. It’s not “ponies and unicorns” It’s not “pie in the sky”It’s not “unrealistic”It’s not “too expensive”It’s all about who has the courage to change the status quo and realign our prioritiesWe actually have the money for these things. Okay. Just take a second and really think about this. There is more than enough money to have healthcare for all. There is enough for kids to go to college and not be in debt for the next 40 years. There is plenty to help the disabled live comfortable, dignified lives. And there is still enough to eradicate homelessness by having programs for addicts, mental healthcare, job training, and clean, safe housing for while they are getting back on their feet. The reason these things don’t exist is because our government:-chooses to give tax breaks to the uber rich and huge corporations-chooses to bailout banks and corporations when they make poor/unethical decisions-chooses to spend an almost unfathomable amount of money on military spending, a lot of which goes to private companies via military contactsPersonally, I’m furious that our elected government officials are making their current budget choices. I’m sick and tired of “corporations are people” and they have a bigger voice than actual people. I’m livid that the GOP is still trying to make us believe that “trickle down” economics works. -- source link
