At the Battle of Antietam, he succeeded Ricketts as division commander, when the latter replaced General Joseph Hooker as corps commander. He was not afraid to be in the thick of the action; he was wounded at Second Bull Run, South Mountain, and Antietam.Revolver, Seven-Shot, 32-Caliber, “Moore’s Single Action Belt Revolver.” Moore’s Patent Firearms Company, Brooklyn, N.Y., Serial Number 60 with Decorative Scroll Engraving, C. 1861. The revolver is marked ” Col. Abrm. Duryee 5th Regt. NYSV.” Abram Duryee organized the Duryee’s Zouaves (5th New York) in 1861 and fought at the Battle of Big Bethel.
