A few photos from Lost Coast Headlands, on the Guthrie Creek Trail. As always, the mile hike and 800 feet of elevation change in each direction was more than worth it. Also as usual, there was hardly anyone there this afternoon. A few people came down the trail, but almost everyone chickened out when they saw the last 100 feet before the beach, which is currently steep and eroded enough to require hands and probably deserves a 5.4 climbing rating. Not nearly as bad as it looks, but most were afraid to try. As I was leaving I did show a couple the way down, and carved out a few footholds for them; after that they made it down to the beach with little difficulty. This is the same place the photos of Chiara were taken, just a few posts before this one. At that time the creek had formed a large pool to the south and tucked right up against the base of the bluff. Today, the creek turns north and flows fast and deep for several hundred feet before entering the ocean. It was cutting toward the bluff before my eyes, visibly eroding the sand, and it will manifest in yet another form a few weeks from now, especially given that there are a couple of storms in the forecast. I’m thinking it may be almost time for another shoot down there, as the water warms a little in spring. -- source link
