peashooter85:The Yummy Roast Meat Island of King Di Xin, Shang Dynasty China,Today the Shang Dyanasty King Zhou of Shang (1075 BC – 1046 BC) is considered one of the most corrupt monarchs in Chinese history. Originally known as King Di Xin (Zhou is a pejorative name given to him after his death), he was a man with many lusts. He was known for hosting large, grand orgies where he would engage in outrageous sexual acts. He also had a reputation for gluttony and drunkenness. King Zhou’s most favorite form of entertainment was his “Wine Pool and Meat Forest”. Inside his palace Zhou ordered the construction of a large pool filled with wine. In the middle of the pool an island was constructed which was planted with artificial trees. The trees had branches which were made from meat skewers, on which various peaces of roast pork, beef, chicken, and duck were placed. King Zhou would often spend hours on small boat in the lake with his friends and concubines. Whenever they were thirsty they simply lowered their cups into the wine lake and drank. Whenever they were hungry they simply grabbed pieces of meat from the roast meat trees and ate.To fund his lavish lifestyle King Zhou implemented heavy taxes on China. In addition, King Zhou was an extremely tyrannical ruler who ordered the execution of his subjects on a whim. In one instance he had the heart of one his uncles ripped out just so he could see what it looked like. Angered by his tyranny, the kingdoms under his rule rebelled against him and dismantled the Shang Dynasty, forming a new dynasty called the Zhou Dynasty. King Zhou himself committed suicide by burning down his palace around him. -- source link
