gamebird:toadschooled:Remarkably, all of the frogs shown here are of the same species. The strawberry poison dart frog [Oophaga pumilio, formerlyDendrobates pumilio] is a Central American species displaying extreme color polymorphism in different localities. Their vibrant coloration and pattering serves to deter predators, as well as attract females and incur competition between rival males. This competition for the most unique coloration is likely the driving force between the extreme diversity within this single species.
