amnhnyc:What’s pink, has forelimbs (but not hind-limbs), and spends most of its time underground? Meet the Mexican mole lizard (Bipes biporus)! This critter grows about 8.3 inches (21.1 centimeters) long, and each of its forelimbs is equipped with five clawed digits that are used for digging. It’s an ectotherm, which means its body temperature depends on its immediate environment. It tends to hang out closer to the surface during the early hours of the day, then burrows deeper below the surface as the Sun peaks. The Mexican mole lizard snacks on a variety of fellow dirt-dwelling critters such as ants, worms, and termites.
