professionallyprocrastinating:speckled-jim:spiiderman:THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER | 1.04 The Whole World Is WatchingI loved how Sam was juxtaposed in this episode with Shitstain Amerikkka, his endless compassion, realizing sometimes creating a dialog was so much more important than resorting to violence… that’s why he showed no hesitation when Zemo asked him about the serum. He KNOWS that’s not what it’s all about. He has the kind of intrinsic understanding of what it means to be Cap that someone like John Walker never did and never will.Sam knew that what made Steve Captain America had little to do with the Serum.Steve’s heart, drive and faith in people; his hope, determination and ability to look past the surface… that existed long before the Serum.Sam is self-aware enough to know that there are parts of him that he does not want the Serum to enhance. He knows that he’d be taking the Serum for the wrong reasons. That’s why he doesn’t hesitate to say ‘no’.Sam saw Steve in a way that few did. Sam knew him in a way that no-one other than Bucky ever managed. A big part of why is Sam’s empathy and compassion. He knows that the fight isn’t always physical. He knows that sometimes talking can be harder than facing down an army. Sam does it anyway. He knows that John Walker does not have what it takes to be Captain America, the kind of Captain America that Steve was and Isaiah could have been. Sam has known that since John’s interview. John only confirmed it when he called Sam “Captain America’s Wingman”.That was a beautiful bit of dialogue subtext. Steve Rodgers lead the first integrated unit (in MCU Canon). John Walker makes it clear that he views Sam not as ‘The Falcon’ or as ‘Steve’s trusted friend’ or even as ‘Captain America’s Ally’… but as an accessory. That’s what closed the door on Sam working with John. He knows what it’s like to be treated as less of a person because of something beyond your control, to rage for things to be better while feeling helpless and out of control, just like he tells Karli. Steve Rodgers was a white ally. John Walker is the guy who insists that he has a black friend, so he can’t be racist. -- source link
