lamus-dworski:aleksandra-martul:#inktober2018 Slavic beliefs, 17/31 ŻmijŻmij - a Slavic dragon. In the Polish beliefs he’s a good snake-like dragon, placed agains an evil smok (a regular Polish word for a ‘dragon’). In many local tales żmij was believed to be a king of the dragons. He was appearing undercover, for example as a rooster, a crane or an eagle, but most often as a viper (in Polish: żmija). In the Polish folklore it was therefore a sin and a bad luck to kill a viper. -- source link
