harrypotterconfessions:For a while, I thought the whole ‘spiders flee from the Basilisk, they fear it more than anything else etc’ thing was mainly plot convenience for CoS. However, I’ve recently made the discovery that a) spiders have almost 360-degree vision, and b) they have no eyelids. Factoring those in, it makes so much sense that the spiders with that kind of vision and no way to close their eyes would be so terrified of a basilisk that only has to be in the vicinity to be able to kill them with its gaze. -- source link
