Miss Miller tends to be severe when she is informed of any misbehaviour during her absence and it usually ends with some boy at the end of her cane. So today, as she usually does, when the teacher came back, she called Lynda, the headgirl, to a side table at the back of the classroom and in a whisper, asked to report who had been unruly while she was out. Lynda informed her that everybody had done well, in silence and working on their tasks. Miss Miller seemed to be surprised, even disappointed, and insisted on her question while holding her cane in her hand. C'mom Lynda, I know my class well. I am almost sure that someone had to be noisy or talkative while I was out. Are you sure? I am starting to think that you did not pay attention enough to your supervising duties. In that case I will have not option but to punish you to write a couple of hundred lines for tomorrow. Lynda, jumped in her chair, and promptly replied: - Well, Miss Miller, now that you mention it, I have just remembered that Johnson dropped his pencil to the floor and I almost sure he did it on purpose.
