damienkempf:The art of warWritten by Konrad Kyeser (1366- c. 1405), Bellifortis is the first fully illustrated manual of military technology, dating from the start of the 15th century. Originally written in Latin, Bellifortis contains many elaborate illustrations of machine, weapons and siege strategies for war. The text enjoyed a great success and survives in many copies, most of which were made in Germany. The images shown here, which are particularly vibrant and colorful, belong to a 15th-c. manuscript now preserved in Besançon (BM, 1360). For the illuminator, military technology was not just about weapons and machines; it was also about art.You can browse the whole manuscript here -- source link
