Fiona“The thing I like most about breastfeeding is the closeness and quiet time spent together, in the early days that ‘milk drunk’ look after the feed. This is my 3rd baby – and breastfeeding definitely gets easier each time, although every now and again I am surprised by something. I care less about others opinions. As this is our last baby, so I am really cherishing breastfeeding this time around. My mum was a big supporter for me and was able to help with simple practical suggestions. She breastfed me - I am the youngest of 4. She tried with the older two but didn’t have good support. Myself, and my next older sister were breastfed. My sister had lots of allergies to food, so she survived on mostly breastmilk for the first 3 years. My mum always spoke about breastfeeding as totally normal, so I just assumed that was what you do.I didn’t intend on breastfeeding for as long as I have (20 months, 3 years, and 17 months and going strong), but once I became involved with ABA it is quite normal to feed until natural weaning and that’s what I did with my 2nd. I love that it was a really gently weaning without trauma to either of us.My biggest challenge was getting breastfeeding going well with my first. His attachment wasn’t great and feeding was pretty painful for the first 10 weeks. I didn’t know that it wasn’t right, but I was very determined so just kept going. We also had thrush in the early days and that was very painful.Breastfeeding in public has never bothered me with a younger baby. I started to feel uncomfortable feeding my middle child in public once he was over 2.My advice to new mothers?Find your support network and learn as much as you can” -- source link
