sewambitious:its-bat-bitch:Just thought I would share some in-progress photos from awhile back when I was working on this Houndstooth Artbook Ciel costume. There are a few things I may have done differently if I made it now, but I am still happy with the results. I haven’t tried this on since I lost weight so I have no idea if it fits anymore or if I can ever wear it again. For those curious: The sewing process is pretty straight forward. I modified a blazer pattern to have a circle peplum at the bottom, and added the sleeve cuffs/shoulder straps and whatnot. The bustle i made up because I have no idea how those things work and whatever his looks like, its not a regular bustle. The main challenge was getting a gradient from Houndstooth into the crows. Luckily Alexander McQueen designed some dressed that this artbook design was obviously inspired by so I was able to blow those up and attempt to trace the shapes as much as possible although most of it had to be fudged with. I drew it all on freezer paper and then cut it out with an X-acto knife, crows included and then ironed the pieces onto the train. then for weeks I painstakingly hand painted those mother fuckers with multiple layers of fabric paint, let them dry, moved it, painted more, let that dry, move it more. Once it was done, lining it was insane. I’ve havent sewn anything that large since the circus tent for our skit in 2012. Anyways. I bought shoes at a second hand store and found a purse with matching pvc vinyl to use to make the cuff. My machine didn’t like the vinyl so they aren’t perfect but the fabric match up is enough to make me proud of them too. Even if I never wear this again, i don’t think I’ll ever be able to part with it. -- source link
