oldshrewsburyian:vanimelda4:Did someone say: ‘more pastel’?No? No one? Well….This is awkward then… Here: David Burke in pastel (and a bit of pencil), because when it comes to Watsons it hardly gets any better.Aw, this is lovely! I usually prefer more serious Watsons, but I love the unabashed boyishness David Burke brings to the role. To me, the sheer, obvious pleasure he takes in his friend’s cleverness suggests that his relationship with Holmes has restored to him some of the youthful joie de vivre that he thought, perhaps, irrevocably lost to war. And his gratitude for this unhoped-for gift is what helps him keep his poise (and help others recover theirs) in the face of Holmes’ wild unconventionality. So what allows him both to keep his temper when Holmes complains about his sensationalist literary style, and to tease his more intelligent friend fearlessly, is that contact with this man has–unexpectedly, miraculously–centered him in himself. -- source link
